Traditionally in Australia, the safety boot market has been dominated by elastic-sided work boots. Elastic-sided boots are fast to get on and off, but they provide very little ankle support. This has changed over the last 5 to 10 years, with lace-up boots that provide excellent ankle support with a zip on the side for easy removal becoming more popular.
The lace-locking eyelet is much larger than the other eyelets on the Oliver 55-332Z AT55 Series boot. The lace-locking eyelet holds the laces below that eyelet tight so that when you’re getting the boot on and off, you can undo the side zip, these laces remain tight, but you can still get in and out of the boot. This feature makes it faster to get the boot on and off without compromising the support of the boot.
One of the primary reasons why the Oliver 55-332Z AT55 Series work boot is so popular is the comfort of the sole. There is a considerable amount of Poron used in the sole, which is a synthetic material that stays spongy and is resistant to moisture and other environmental conditions, helping the shoe remain comfortable for long periods of time.
The boot contains a NANOlite footbed (inner sole). There are dots all over the inner sole, which are raised lumps that are designed to massage the foot as you are walking along which promotes blood flow in the foot.
The outer sole of the boot is a high-heat rubber outer sole that can handle temperatures up to approximately 300 degrees celsius, which is great if you’re exposed to hot sparks from grinding or welding metal. This durability means the sole doesn’t tend to melt like a polyurethane sole would.
The outer sole is also anti-static, which is suitable for industries that have ignition risks, such as chemical factories and the petroleum industry. The outer sole has chemical resistant properties, able to withstand standing in corrosive chemicals and lasts longer than a standard polyurethane sole.
On the front of the boot there’s a scuff guard. The scuff guard is designed to protect the leather from puncture that can be caused by anything from kicking steel to timber that would otherwise expose the toe cap, in turn creating a possible electrical risk.
The stitching on the Oliver 55-332Z AT55 Series work boot is very robust. In some areas it is triple-stitched. The stitch that’s at the front of the boot, rather than being cotton, it’s actually made of Kevlar. Kevlar thread is one of the strongest and heat resistant threads available, lasting considerably longer than cotton stitching. Kevlar stitching is also great against corrosive chemicals, a splash of corrosive chemical on a work boot may eat away at cotton quickly, however the Kevlar stitch will last much longer.
The liner in the Oliver 55-332Z AT55 Series work boot is highly breathable and antimicrobial. It’s great for people who have hot and sweaty feet prone to odor – we find people with feet like this tend to have dryer feet in this boot with reduced odor.
The leather on this work boot is high quality, high grade leather that is water resistant.
The half bellow tongue is partially sealed to the main part of the boot half way up, which is great in both wet and dusty conditions, perfect for use in the construction industry where you have got rocks and pebbles and dirt that would otherwise could get in the boot.
The Oliver 55-332Z AT55 Zip-Side Safety Boot has a six month manufacturer warranty, with a 30-day comfort guarantee. This means that, even though you’ve had the boot properly fitted, if you get home and are not comfortable in the first 30 days, it can be exchanged or refunded.
Importantly, the Oliver 55-332Z AT55 Zip-Side Safety Boot is made to Australian Standard 2210.1:2010.
