For workplaces where respiratory protection is a necessity there are many options such as disposable respirators and reusable respirators, however there are more heavy-duty options such as our Powered Air Purifying Respirator (or PAPR).
The 3M™ Versaflo™ TR-300, is a PAPR-unit that uses a battery-powered blower unit which filters particulates from the air and pushes the filtered air through a hose and up into the head-piece. These headpieces are modulated and can be retro-fitted with other suitable headpieces for more customisation.
Some headpieces can incorporate a certified hard-hat and an impact-resistant visor, which makes it suitable for more hazardous working conditions, like working in domestic residential properties that are affected by asbestos.
Typical respirators generally would require the user to be clean shaven for an effective facial seal, however our loose-fitting headpieces on a PAPR unit are an effective respiratory solution for somebody with facial hair. This is because the positive pressure generated by the PAPR unit is greater than the pressure outside the respirator.
PAPR units like this are used extensively in industries where asbestos or silica may be present. They’re used also in the medical industry and other high-dust environments.
